Be A Part Of This Holiday Tradition And Attend Zoolights At The Smithsonian’s National Zoo
ZooLights at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo just might be one of the biggest and most popular holiday events in the area. Each year, the zoo puts up hundreds of thousands of eco-friendly lights, many of them shaped like your favorite animals. That’s not all, either. The zoo hosts a variety of holiday-themed events as well. ZooLights will run through Jan. 1, except for Dec. 24, 25, and 31. It’s free of charge and open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Check out what you can expect when you go to ZooLights.
The Gingerbread Village
The zoo has built a new Gingerbread Village for ZooLights this year, and it’s already getting lots of buzz. You’ll walk down a path full of holiday lights until you make it to the Gingerbread Village. You’ll be greeted by lollipops and, of course, gingerbread. Stop by the gingerbread throne to get a few holiday photos before moving onto the next section of ZooLights.
Reindeer Games Fun Zone
You’ve walked around to see the lights, and your kids still have tons of energy. That means it’s time to head to the Reindeer Games Fun Zoo. This fun zone is also new this year, and it is full of activities for kids to enjoy. They can fly down inflatable slides, navigate obstacle courses, and more. There are even illuminated rides in the fun zone. You do have to pay for the rides. The rides are $3 each, or you can get an eight-ride punch card for $20.
Enjoy Some Holiday Treats
You are going to get hungry and thirsty when you walk around the zoo. Fortunately, there will be plenty to eat and drink. Grab an eggnog or a mulled wine for you, and then get the kids a hot chocolate. Everyone can share kettle corn, gingerbread, holiday cookies, and other treats.

GRUMP Holiday Market
Need to finish your holiday shopping? You can stop by the GRUMP market when you’re at ZooLights. The market will be on Dec. 7 to 9, and it’ll feature an assortment of gifts made by local artists. More than 40 local artists will participate in the European-style outdoor market, and you can find everything from handmade clothing to toys.
You have a good reason to be excited about ZooLights. Don’t let the excitement end there, though. Keep the fun going by getting a new vehicle from Safford CJDR of Springfield in Springfield, Virginia. Your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram will make it easy to embark on one adventure after the next.
